A little of this, a little of that

I am procrastinating with packing for Wehrman Round-up and the trip up to Lake Florida! Just wanted to post a couple things before we take off for awhile.

Bargain of the month: This American flag set marked down in the clearance section at Dillon's--just $4.99! We'd been wanting one, and I couldn't beat that price! A close up of some pretty peach and ruffly red gladiolas from the flower bed:

That's leftover frosting from a cake, and Speedy figured out she was into something yummy!

Honey is waving hello and good-bye to everyone now, even vehicles pulling in and out of the driveway--very cute. She also recognizes hay bales in fields as we drive by and says, 'ba, ba' (ball).

Since VBS, Princess has been trying to witness to Speedy. She'll out of the blue ask him if he wants to go to heaven or hell. Speedy usually replies, 'stop talking to me!' Good practice for the real world, I guess. Today she asked him if he wanted his sins forgiven, and he said yes. Princess was so excited! I don't know if she has babies on the brain or what, but several times this week I've caught her with her shirt up, trying to get Speedy to nurse. Oh dear.

Hopefully in a week or so I'll be able to update with some fun vacation pictures! Stay cool, we're finally (ugh) reaching the 100s this week!

Wow

It has been neat to be in the preschool class at VBS with my kiddos--they feel comfortable because I'm close, but I also get to see how they interact with other kids and adults. Today in one session the teacher was asking if anyone knew what 'preaching' was. My Princess piped up, 'teaching about God.' I'm not really sure how she knew that, but I was proud of her, and kind of in awe at how she's growing up and taking some things to heart. :) She was also brave enough to pray in our class as we placed our hands on the soccer ball we'd prepared to send to a child in S. Africa. I don't think I was brave enough to do that until...maybe college??

Projects

Hmm. Maybe once summer winds down I'll have time to work on some of those projects I was hoping to do DURING the summer! Scrapbooking, sewing, making jam from apricot juice from my grandma, replacing my guaranteed mail-order plants that didn't make it. It's hard to believe that thinking about this fall makes me feel less busy. :) We'll only have football games, PAT events, and 'school' for Princess and Speedy at home. (not much, right? wink) I was excited to see Speedy write a C and an A with sidewalk chalk this week, he really hasn't drawn many recognizable things yet. But then again, he's usually not sitting still for very long unless he's watching a show, playing on the computer, or doing a puzzle. While unloading the van today, I found him peeing in the middle of the front yard. Not right there, buddy! His reply, "why not?"

I'll be pleasantly surprised if we actually get anything from our garden. Things have kind of burned up; but the volunteer pumpkins are still blooming. And climbing the fence. I was going to take them down (won't heavy pumpkins tear the vines?) but hubby said the pumpkins know what they are doing, so I left them alone. :)

Power Lab: Aha!

One more day of VBS! The kids had fun with face painting and sno cones at family night last night. They're learning about how Jesus gives us the power to be thankful; help others; be brave; and live forever. And I've learned some other interesting things...

Or that this is our pastor? AKA Dr. Boom. Speedy and his cousin are fascinated by him, but for some reason always end up in my lap when he comes out on stage. :)
Or did you know that an orange floats, but a PEELED orange sinks? A can of Diet Coke floats, but a can of regular coke sinks? (Eww.) What do you think about a bowling ball--sink or float?

It sure is Monday...

The first day of VBS--fun, but tiring. A-HA! Sorry. Anyway, I finally have the trash out and laundry started today, after seeing that Princess had colored on the wall, in crayon AND marker (a few days ago, she says.) (If you don't own a Magic Eraser, it's a must!) And after waking up from my much needed nap to find the older two hiding downstairs with a flowery odor--they had shaken out an entire container of carpet fresh all over, while they were SUPPOSED to be taking their own naps. I sent them upstairs to think about it--by the time I got to Speedy's room, he was asleep. Rrrr. Honey has no shirt on, because she kept dribbling chocolate milk out of her mouth and onto the floor. And then she shut the computer off when I finally had the chance to be catching up on some blogs. Baby-proofing seems to be taking on a new meaning with her. She is into everything, now climbing up on all sorts of things to reach higher. Why do I still feel so tired? :)

4th Fun

Oh, the kiddos were SO excited that the 4th of July was finally here, because that meant FINALLY fireworks!! Here is my hubby entertaining them by lighting firecrackers under tin cans to pop them up into the air. Some went as high as the roof! Honey wasn't scared a bit by the noise, and loved being one of the big kids.

How we spent our day: parade in the morning, family lunch, tried to get the kids to nap, supper here with some of my fam, firecrackers here, watching the city fireworks. A fun day.
